Summer days are here my friends! And the sun is heating up the streets of Los Angeles, making it the best time to hit the beaches or go out exploring the open trails in Southern California.
The Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere was celebrated on
June 21st this year, which officially marks the first day of Summer,
the longest day of the year. June has a few fun days of celebration like, International
Surfing Day, Earth Day, Go Skateboarding Day to name a few and let’s not forget
…Father’s Day- I hope all you scout dads out there in Pio Pico had a great day
celebrating your day!
I
would like to thank everyone that came out to the Roundtable Picnic back on
June 15th. It was great seeing so many leaders out there having a good
time. It’s been a while and gosh, it was just great to see some friendly faces
after 2 years of Covid! Tom Garcia, thank you for always grilling up the
hamburgers and hot dogs for us.

I
hope everyone is out and enjoying their summer adventures. Remember to always
be prepared when you are out and about for your never know when you may need to
jump into action. Like two Boy Scouts troops from Wisconsin. While they were returning
from their High Adventure backpacking trip in New Mexico, their train suddenly
derailed from hitting a dump truck that was at an uncontrolled crossing. The scouts
who were not injured jumped into action, breaking the windows to help people
off the train and offering first aid to the passengers until the First
Responders arrived. One of the Scout Leaders had mentioned the scouts just
completed their wilderness first aid training prior to their trip; confirming
that he was pretty sure they put it to use that day. The youth were between the
ages of 13 to 17.

BOY SCOUTS AID POMONA AUTOISTS
POMONA, May 14.
Boy Scouts of this city are engaged in a "Prevent That Puncture Campaign”
under the auspices of the Automobile Club of Southern California, and their
efforts so far prove that the boys are unusually Industrious, or else that the
city's streets are sadly neglected. Troop fourteen, one of the troops entered
in the campaign, has completed the district assigned to It and have collected
1350 articles, from nails to glass. If the other troops in the city hold this
average, the total amount of "junk" collected should total 91,000.
Motorists of this city are much elated over the project aa It will probably
mean 91,000 less punctures - poor business for tire dealers.
